we went to the zoo today! but it made me sad because the enclosures were tiny. they birds couldnt fly in any sort of manner and most animas couldnt run i theres. and a lot of them were crazy. pacing back and forth... it was sad. they had a LOT of animals too.... european wolves, 6 kinds of hiena, and at least 30 kinds of birds... maybe more. we also saw these 2 pythons that were the size of my leg. they were pretty. and we went in a row boat on the lake they had. anna cant row and rosa sat in the wrong end so it felt like we were gonna flip, but other than that it was great. in other news - i'm peeling! my collar bone isnt burnt anymore so its starting to peel - it fells funny. random facts: mexicans eat a LOT of string cheese. it comes in big balls of stringyness and they eat it with almost everything. taxi's here cost next to nothing! a $50 ride in the US is 50 pesos here (= $5.) also - they have acid rain here. we dont go out and we bring the laundry in when it rains. it bleaches clothes. thats all i can think of right now. so, i said we were going somewhere last time right? wrong. anna was sick (i think its all in her head) so we didnt go anywhere and wednesday we went to the mall and saw you Dont Mess With the Zohan, cause it was half off wednesday. other than that, we've been sitting around the house all day. boring. os i'm going to tell you a ew things i found out about mexico. the prices are weird. things you'd think would be cheap, are not. and thinks that ARE cheap, are easy to loose... they throw away the toilet paper. no flushing. something about saving water, but it just makes the bathrooms smell... they dont eat peanutbutter. much less as a sandwich - they laughed at me... they talk softly. anna keeps saying weird things about how loud some of the old ladies talk, but i dont hear a difference. all retail stores close at sundown or just after. so when you really WANT to go out, you can only find restaurants. its cold. a lot. its rainy season, i'm told, so its cold when ever the suns not shining - which is half the time. kids dont throw things away. adults are usually very conscious about being neat and eco-friendly, but kids cant grasp this concept. and instead of putting trash in a plastic bag or something when they're on long trips, they just throw it out the window - they are very contradicting here... fast food taste exactly the same. so does chinese. but adults here still get dressed up to go to McDonald's or what ever, but the kids seemed to have figured out they dont need to. also, chili's and starbucks have valet parking. and privacy bushes. and pizza delivery guys ride motorbikes with special boxes for pizza on the back - i think this is a really good idea, and i wonder why we dont do that at home.... houses are all made of concrete. doors are metal. and you build your houses yourself. so people know your tastes and how much money you make when they step in your house. also, for $5000 american you can build yourself a nice house here - land is CHEAP. and the tile here is really nice, too. ... thats all i can think of right now. and we hope to do SOMETHING today, sense its the 4th of july and all... so i hoe to update later - if i can get anna away from her myspace for 5 minutes. later! ok, so said we went to the pool right? what i didn't realize was i got sunburned on my shoulders. it hurts. yesterday we left early and when up to Grandpa's 'farm'. its really just a few acres where he grows mushrooms, raises cows, and does stuff with trees. anna and rosa got so worked up about the calves. i didnt see anything special, but they freaked the babies out by trying to pet them when they DID NOT want to be petted. then we walked around the property (which was nice) and one of anna's uncles shot a robin. then his kids wouldnt put it down. they're like... 4 and 6? and they wouldnt put it down. it was nasty. and i found out - I AM NOT A KID PERSON. i just dont like them. i cant deal with small children. i was in the back seat with them and i kind of wanted to strangle them. the 6 yr old kept making these kicked dog sounds that he found hilarius. i wanted to punch him. i dont know how anna puts up with them. anyways, we went to the 'farm house' (it was in a little town nearby) that anna's dad and his siblings grew up in. Grandpa has been renovating the place for the last 3 years, but the place it huge. it has over 8 bedroom (most with their own bathrooms), 2 kitchens, a business/store room, a courtyard with peachtrees, and whats going to be a mini ballroom. and Grandpa did almost all of it himself. he used to be a foreman/contractor guy. hes awsome like that. o! i got sunburned again that day. right over the other sunburn. so i'm hurting right now. oh! we found this guy that used to work for wendy's or something, but he makes hamburgers. american style. i was so happy. and they're GOOD. easily $4. and today we went to church, had some great yogurt with granola, and went to the cemetery to pray for Grandma. and we went to see the flag at the top of the hill. you can see almost all of the city from there. its twice as big as marietta. huge. and i decided i'm moving to Los Vegas after college. i breath better in this type of air. other than that we're hanging out watching german vs. spain soccer. spain's winning and one guy just got beaned in the nads with the ball. later. ok, just so everyone knows - we did nothing yesterday. i was sick, anna was sick, we ate nothing all day. well, i had a piece of bread and a mango, but i couldnt keep anything else down. on the other hand, we're feeling MUCH better today. i can eat a little bit and anna isnt 'backed up' anymore. we also went to this AWESOME park today. its the national park of Urapan, it was ... a fair size. i wish it was bigger but it was so nice there. although i could have done with out all the people. the park is a spring were its said this saint was running from the devil when the devil tripped and imprinted his knee in a rock, so its main attraction is 'devil's knee rock'. so the whole place is stone paths with these little aqua ducts that run along and under then and empty into the river, the tees are gigantic. some were a hundred feet tall, and the banana-tree-look-a-likes had leaves twice as tall as a person. it was shady and cool and so very very nice. ... if only there hadnt been any people! dear god they were everywhere! we also found fresh water pearls (necklace and bracelet sets) for $15. we bought some, but you know what? they disappeared! seriously. they where in my bag the whole time then i got home and they were gone! everything else was still there (ipod, camera, passport,), but the pearls were gone... it was the weirdest thing. i'm mad as hell about it, but... not much i can do now. also, anyone see that book Hill of Fire? the kids book? where the farmer finds (starts) a volcano in in his field? we visited the relocated town. they have a nice cathedral. simple but elegant. very nice place. didnt get to see the original town, but thats ok - theres nothing really there. thats been the day so far. and now its time to sleep. night!
